1,000 Days, Zero Accidents at THOR Brazil

Publish Date: 08/12/2025

Colleagues at THOR’s site in Caiapós, Brazil, recently celebrated reaching a hugely impressive health and safety milestone: 1,000 days without a lost-time accident (LTA).

Caiapós is home to THOR Brazil’s production, warehouse, shipping and laboratory functions, with approximately 18 employees each undertaking carefully controlled roles. Across all THOR sites we’re dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace, as set out in our recent Sustainability Report. Whilst our operations are inherently hazardous, our teams’ health and safety will always be our top priority, and one of our Group-wide targets is to reduce our Lost Time Incident Rate by 20 per cent.

1,000 days without an LTA doesn’t just happen by luck. Alongside this achievement is a great example for international cooperation within the THOR Group. THOR’s Mexico team played an instrumental role in helping their Brazil colleagues to optimise their local Internal Safety Parameters.

Improvements to cleaning routines and general site organisation made a big difference, as did the installation of vapor exhaust and dust collection systems in the production area. Shipping areas in the warehouse were also revised, as were the work routines for operators and their respective functions and duties. Refresher training sessions were held for the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and a third-party occupational safety engineer visits the site every week.

To celebrate this extraordinary feat, the Brazil team assembled after hours in nearby Barueri City for a special celebratory dinner. Ridnei Brenna, Managing Director of THOR Brazil, shared some congratulatory words to the team, along with two colleagues who are also members of the 2025 CIPA (Internal Commission for Accident Prevention).

Speaking on the milestone, Ridnei said: “Of course we are very proud of our record in ensuring the safety of our colleagues, but we also know that it is more than just a statistic. A lot of hard work goes on every day at our site, and we are constantly vigilant to the risks that are inherent with the work we do.

“This has truly been a team effort, not just our local teams but also through the shared knowledge from our neighbouring THOR businesses too. So I thank everyone involved in helping us reach 1,000. We have set a really high standard for ourselves and it is our shared responsibility to ensure that this is just a part of our ongoing health and safety journey.”

At time of publishing, the count has since reached 1,031 days without accident. But just as important is the need to remember that there is no end-point, just the ongoing commitment to high standards, care, and attention.
