THOR Italy Backing Local Powerchair Hockey Team

Publish Date: 06/05/2026

For the past three years, THOR Italy has played an active role in supporting a local powerchair hockey team, the Varese Skorpions.

Financial donations have expanded opportunities for people with severe motor pathologies in sport, and helped elevate them to a championship play-off position come the end of the season.

The Skorpions are based in the small town of Besnate, approximately 8km from THOR Italy’s site. They were first founded in 2003 by Claudio Carelli who had the dream of expanding opportunities for people with severe motor pathologies, with powerchair hockey being one of the very few sports accessible. The history of the Skorpions is one filled with stories of human value as well as sport, helping many boys and girls realising they can achieve big. To date, the Skorpions are the most titled team in Italy!

This achievement reflects not only the team’s determination, resilience and spirit on the field, but also the strength of a shared vision. THOR Italy is pleased to have played a role in making this journey possible, proudly supporting both the team and its wider mission enabling young athletes to experience something truly special: competition, teamwork, and personal growth beyond their everyday environment, without placing financial burden on their families. These donations reflect the values central to how we operate here at THOR: solving challenges with ingenuity and delivering with integrity, on and off the playing field!

Lorella Carabelli, Managing Director of THOR Italy spoke on the site’s involvement with the team, saying: "At THOR Italy, we strongly believe in supporting local communities and initiatives that promote inclusion and teamwork. Partnering with a team like the Skorpions is a meaningful way for us to contribute to a positive social impact in the area where we operate."

More than a sporting result, this season tells a story of inclusion, commitment and positive impact, demonstrating the importance of supporting local communities to us here at THOR.
