THOR Malaysia Celebrates Plant and Technical Centre Renovation

Publish Date: 02/09/2026

On Thursday 6 August 2026, local colleagues gathered at our THOR Malaysia production site in Shah Alam, Malaysia, to celebrate the official reopening of the company's newly renovated plant and technical centre.

The renovation of the site, one of two THOR Malaysia premises in the area (the other being an office and warehousing location), represents the company progression of growth which would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our employees. The ceremony marked an important milestone for the site, reflecting THOR's continued commitment to providing modern facilities that support innovation, operational excellence, and future growth. Dr Qinglin Zheng, APAC Chief Operating Officer, and Jocelyn Zhang, APAC Commercial Director, were invited to attend the event.

With the factory around 32 years old, the majority of the renovation focused on rejuvenating the work area and updating in accordance to health, safety and regulation compliances. A new racking system has now increased storage capacity by 40% as well as additional operational efficiency. The installation of a solar energy system also contributes to the site’s ESG programme. THOR Malaysia's technical centre has also benefitted from a 50% space expansion, allowing for an increased test workload. A new bridge linking the technical office to the laboratory will further optimise operations.

Unlike the larger opening ceremony held for the new site in 2023, this year's event was intentionally more intimate, with attendance limited to THOR Malaysia employees. The occasion provided an opportunity for colleagues to come together, celebrate the transformation of the facility, and recognise the people who contributed to making the project a success.

Chee Heong Kiew, THOR Malaysia's Managing Director, said:

“We are delighted to officially reopen our newly renovated plant and technical service centre here in Shah Alam, Malaysia. The ongoing evolution of our THOR Malaysia business keeps us at the forefront of innovation in the region and extends our leadership in the industries that we are involved in."

The celebration featured three memorable highlights:

The first was a vibrant performance by a traditional 24 Festive Drums troupe made up of local students. The 24 Festive Drums is a well known musical performance that uses large drums with leather skin, welcoming the festive seasons. Our team was honoured to welcome these talented young performers as part of the celebration, recognising the importance of supporting youth development while celebrating the diversity and multicultural heritage that make Malaysia unique. The energetic performance created an atmosphere of excitement and pride.

A second highlight was the traditional Lion Dance performance and office blessing ceremony. Widely associated with prosperity, good fortune, and new beginnings, the ceremony symbolised the start of an exciting new chapter for the renovated facility. The performance brought colour and energy to the event while reflecting the cultural traditions that are deeply valued within the local community.

The final highlight was the official handover of a 4WD ambulance to Penang First Responder, a non-profit organisation dedicated to serving the local community. Operated entirely by volunteers, including nurses, medics, doctors, and first aiders, the organisation responds to emergency calls activated by hospitals and public emergency response teams and provides emergency response services free of charge.

In addition to supporting emergency response activities, Penang First Responder plays an important role in assisting low-income communities and people with disabilities who may not have access to transportation. The organisation helps transport these individuals to hospitals for medical treatment and follow-up appointments at no cost, ensuring they can access the care they need.

The ambulance handover reflected THOR Malaysia's commitment to supporting the communities in which it operates and highlighted the positive impact that partnerships with local organisations can achieve.

The opening ceremony was a proud moment for everyone involved, celebrating not only the completion of the renovation project but also THOR Malaysia's continued commitment to its employees, community, and future growth. Through a combination of cultural celebration, employee engagement, and community support, the event marked an inspiring new beginning for the renovated plant and technical centre.
