Raising the bar for dialysis care across 11 centres in Malaysia

Earlier this month, THOR Malaysia donated 11 portable ultrasound devices to support the work of Maaedicare Charitable Foundation’s dialysis centres.

For more than 30 years, the Maaedicare Charitable Foundation has delivered essential kidney and heart-related care to marginalised communities throughout Malaysia. Supporting local communities is an integral part of how THOR operates globally, and this donation reflects that long‑standing commitment.

Based in Selangor Darul Ehsan, the THOR Malaysia team has consistently supported low‑income communities through charitable donations and local initiatives for many years. This latest contribution enables Maaedicare to become the first dialysis provider in Malaysia to introduce ultrasound‑guided cannulation across its charity dialysis centres nationwide.

The new equipment allows for ‘advanced vein imaging technology’, and will be made available to approximately 750 patients from low-income areas. By enabling clinicians to visualise vein depth, direction, and calibre, ultrasound guided cannulation improves quality of care, reduces failed needle insertions, helps preserve vascular access, and significantly reduces the discomfort associated with repeated needlestick attempts.

Kiew Chee Heong, Managing Director of THOR Malaysia, attended the foundation’s launch event. He said: “THOR Malaysia has always been fully committed to supporting the local communities in which we operate, and we’re proud to support Maaedicare’s work and contribute in a practical way that directly benefits the Malaysian people. We have a long history of supporting communities in need, and it's a privilege to be able to make a difference in this way.”

This donation builds on the team’s wider community support. In 2024, THOR Malaysia donated 12 dialysis machines and funded the purchase of an ambulance for St John’s Ambulance Malaysia.
