Thor launches AMME™

Thor has pioneered the development of protection technology for biocides for dry film applications.  The result of 10 years progress has resulted in the launch of Thor AMME™ (Advanced Micro Matrix Embedding). This novel technology has enabled the creation of a new generation of dry film ACTICIDE® biocides with a wide range of benefits.

Advantages of AMME™ include enhanced dry film stability, including improved thermal and UV stability and reduced leaching and discoloration potential. The technology also enables products with an optimized toxicological profile and the in-can stability is improved.

Thor AMME™ IPBC products are recommended for the protection from fungal growth of  interior and exterior coatings, timber protection products, adhesives, fillers and sealants and are particularly suitable for the long term protection of wood coatings from surface mold growth.  The DCOIT range with AMME™ provides dry-film protection of coatings, plasters and similar products from fungal and algal growth. In all cases the level of an AMME™ biocide active ingredient can be reduced compared to the use of standard biocidal actives.

Further information on AMME™ products is available from your local Thor representative.

Innovative Flame Retardants now TSCA listed

Building on more than 30 years of experience in phosphorus chemistry and flame retardants for textiles, Thor now offers a comprehensive range of non halogenated flame retardant additives for plastic applications.

The latest innovations from Thor’s R&D laboratories, AFLAMMIT® PCO 700 and AFLAMMIT® PCO 800 are two entirely new halogen-free flame retardants.  Following the first industrial applications with these FRs in Europe, the listing on the TSCA inventory is a significant milestone after the successful REACh registration in Europe last year.

The result of many years of own research and on-going development with pilot customers, the high performance products are more effective than traditional organo-bromine/chlorine based products and also overcome the drawbacks of alternative halogen-free solutions, especially in thin sections.  The chief applications of the new products are expected to be in polyolefin thin articles such as films, tapes, weaves and non wovens for the automotive and construction industries, but initial evaluations in other resins and applications are looking very promising.  Highly demanding specifications can be achieved while retaining transparency and mechanical properties of the treated film.  At the same time these economically viable alternatives are environmentally friendly, offer improved fire safety and are compliant with present and anticipated regulatory requirements.

The flame retardants are manufactured at Thor’s Speyer, Germany site and available via Thor’s global network of sales and technical service facilities.
